A few designs (out of many) for a production of J.R.R.Tolkien's "THE HOBBIT" adapted by Rony Robinson for the Redgrave Theatre in Farnham. The director was Graham Watkins. From top to bottom: GANDALF THE GREY, a great and good wizard - played by a very tall actor wearing 'lifts' in his boots. THREE TROLLS. The trolls are huge and very nasty, but very stupid. Articulated face masks were worn, with heavily padded costumes. The actors stood on their 'boots', which were actually 'platforms' attached to their feet. DAIN'S MESSENGER - from an extremely warlike tribe! The costume was made mainly from studded leather. There are more costume designs for "THE HOBBIT" on the next page. |
