King's Rhapsody (settings & costumes)

A touring production of Ivor Novello's romantic musical "KING'S RHAPSODY"

The task here was to create a sense of sumptuous luxury on a very limited budget. (and which could tour in a single articulated wagon!)

Three of the many settings are shown here.

The last scene shows the coronation of the boy king, where the cathedral setting is backed with a black cloth containing a 'rose window', painted with aniline dyes on an insert of cotton sheeting, and back-lit.

The director was Kim Grant.
